Greenfest: Local Cloth – Intro to Shashiko Workshop

March 26 @ 9:00 am 12:00 pm

Join the Student Environmental Center for the Intro to Sashiko Workshop from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. in Highsmith Union, Mountain Suite 229. Led by Asheville-based nonprofit Local Cloth, this beginner-friendly class introduces participants to Sashiko, a traditional Japanese stitching technique rooted in repair, reinforcement, and decorative design.

During the workshop, students will learn the fundamentals of Sashiko while practicing six different stitching patterns. Participants will begin creating a sampler piece that can be completed using the skills gained in class, offering both a creative outlet and a practical approach to extending the life of textiles.

Students are asked to bring a pair of embroidery snips or small scissors.
