Parking Permits

All UNC Asheville students an employees who bring a vehicle to campus must register for a permit. To register a vehicle, you will need the Vehicle year, make, model, color, license plate number, and state of registration. Full academic year parking is $220 for students and $120-$370 for employees based on income. Other options are $5 daily, $25 weekly, and $60 for motorcycles and mopeds.

Permit requirements are applied & enforced 24/7/365 in all UNC Asheville lots.

Student Parking

Student permits are categorized into First-Year Resident (<30 earned credit hours, lives on campus), Resident (lives on campus), and Non-Resident (lives off campus). From 6am to 5pm, Monday through Friday when classes are in session, all student permit holders must park in their respective lots below. 5pm-6am, Monday through Friday, on weekends, or when class is not in session (observed holidays & breaks) valid student permit holders may park in any Faculty & Staff, Non-Resident, or All Permit lots.

After the conclusion of Spring classes, registered summer students are eligible to purchase a summer permit at a reduced fee of $45. Academic year permits are valid through the summer months and do not need to be supplemented with a Summer Permit.

Faculty/Staff Parking

Faculty and staff may pay the full permit cost by credit card or enroll in payroll deduction. Payroll deduct will automatically withhold between $10 to $30.83 or for full time employees, 1/12 of the permit price from each monthly paycheck issued by the university or 1/26 for those receiving biweekly paychecks. Once enrolled, payroll deductions continue until the employee requests that they are terminated. This is regardless of whether or not you purchase or register for a new permit. Additional permits, daily, weekly, and motorcycle permits cannot be added to the payroll deduct system and must be paid for online.

Visitor Parking

Visitor Parking Fees are Active 7-days a Week

$3: 6am – 5pm
$0: 5pm – 6am
$25: for weekly permits
$110: for semester permits (please contact parking@unca.edu to request a semester permit)

Permitted visitors may park in Visitor, Non-Resident, or All Permit lots Monday – Friday from 6am – 5pm. From 5pm – 6am and on weekends, breaks, and observed holidays, Visitors may park in Visitor, Non-Resident, F/S, or All Permit lots.

Temporary, Volunteer & Student Employees

Compensated interns and temporary employees must purchase permits to park. Officially recognized University volunteers may obtain 1 free permit to park. A current volunteer appointment must be on file with UNC Asheville Human Resources for eligibility.

Enrolled students who are also University employees are not entitled to Faculty/ Staff permits and must park in the lot for which their student permit is valid. Student interns who are not affiliated with UNC Asheville may be eligible for a Staff permit, but will need to seek approval from the Parking Coordinator. University departments are not permitted to purchase parking permits for anyone being compensated by UNC Asheville. This includes paid interns, adjuncts, or visiting professors.

Camps & Conferences

If you are attending a special event, please refer to the campus map and event information for parking accommodations. You will be required to purchase a permit to park.

1-day permits are $3.
7-day permits are $25.
Full summer session permits are $45.

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI)

OLLI members and frequent guests of the Reuter Center must display a permit. Please visit unca.edu/olliasheville or OLLI at the Reuter Center for more information.

Vendors & Contractors

Vendor/ Contractor permits are available for issue to on-contract individuals who have repeat on-campus business where a standard visitor permit will not suffice. These permits require prior approval for issuance by a vendors UNCA point of contact. The person to which the permit is registered to claims responsibility for any/ all parking violations issued to their permit. If your permit is lost or stolen, please notify Parking Services immediately. These permits allow for parking in F/S, NR, & ALL PERMIT lots.

Retirees

UNC Asheville Retirees are lifetime members of the University community and are entitled to one (1) free parking permit. To setup your Retiree account, please email a copy of your Retiree RockyCard to parking@unca.edu. If you do not have one, please visit the RockyCard Office first. Retiree permit holders may park in any F/S, Non-Resident or All Permit lots.

Electric Vehicle Charging Station

In order utilize electric vehicle charging spaces, you must purchase a supplemental EV Charging Station Access permit (in addition to your primary parking permit). Funds collected from these permits help sustain those existing charging stations as well as fund opportunities to create future potential charging & sustainable parking solutions on campus. Permits are $10 for 7-day access permit and $40 for 30-day access permit (consecutive days). Level 2 charging stations are located at the P-10, P-12, and P-19 lots. Charging is limited to 4-hours per instance.


Parking Exchanges & Transfers

If you need to change your permit type (First-Year, Resident, Non-Resident…etc) please email the Parking Services office (parking@unca.edu) directly, as permit types to not automatically change based on earned credit hours, residency status…etc.

If you purchase a new vehicle or otherwise need to change your primary car you can transfer a existing permit to a different vehicle from within your parking portal. To make either a Temporary or Permanent change, log into your parking portal at unca.aimsparking.com and click on “Permits.”

From there you can make changes to the vehicle your permit is associated with.

Permit Refunds

Students, faculty and staff who transfer, withdraw, graduate or otherwise separate from UNC Asheville may apply for a partial prorated refund for academic year parking permits. Student permits devalue by $27.50 on the first of each month beginning September 1st. No refunds are granted after March 31st as the value of a student permit depreciates to $0 on April 1st.

Faculty & Staff who are enrolled in payroll deductions are not eligible for any form of refund. Upon separation or retirement deductions automatically discontinue.

Requesting a Refund

To request a refund, you must complete the Permit Return Form (below) return it to the Parking Services office. Faculty and staff may be asked to provide information on their initial form of payment.

Refund Payments

When possible, refunds will be sent back to the debit/ credit card that was used for the initial permit purchase. If that is not available (i.e. original card is no longer active) the refund amount will be applied to the individuals Banner account; Faculty and staff members will be issued a check for the remaining balance via mail. Any/ all unpaid parking citations will be deducted from the refund.
