Lauris McQuoid-Greason specializes in contemporary Latin American literature and aesthetics, with a particular focus on contemporary Mexico. Her research interests revolve around the ways contemporary Latin American writers have responded to processes of privatization and neoliberalization in Latin America, both of the cultural sphere, and more broadly. In this vein, the authors and artists she has engaged in her research have drawn on an array of aesthetic strategies, from autofiction, ‘escrituras del yo,’ and essay, to collective and social practices. While her early research work focused on the Southern Cone, examining the work of such authors as Mario Levrero, Mariana Enríquez, and Lina Meruane, she carried this interest into a dissertation project focused on contemporary Mexico. This project, titled “Social Structures: Social Practices and Cultural Infrastructure in Mexican Aesthetics (2000-2020),” examined an array of aesthetic and interdisciplinary projects across literature and the arts that draw on collective and collaborative processes, in order to engage with recent transformations to cultural infrastructure in Mexico and Latin America. Her current research projects focus on preparing this work for publication; as well as concurrent projects on Mexican authors such as Vivian Abenshsuhan. With a background in French as well, Dr. McQuoid-Greason teaches courses in Spanish and French language, as well as courses on Latin American culture and aesthetics.Education
