Explore the City

In addition to University transportation services, public transit connects UNC Asheville to the surrounding community. Asheville Rides Transit (ART) provides bus service throughout Asheville and nearby areas, including routes to downtown, local neighborhoods, and shopping areas. Public transit offers a convenient and sustainable option for commuting, running errands, or exploring the city.


Asheville Transit Services

Asheville Rides Transit (ART) provides bus service throughout the City of Asheville. For information on full city routes and service alerts, visit the Asheville Transit website.

ART routes N1 and N2 service multiple stops both on and off UNC Asheville’s campus. All Asheville Transit routes originate from the ART station at 49 Coxe Ave in downtown Asheville (next to the U.S. Post Office). The ART station has restrooms, indoor and outdoor eating, and an on-duty information assistant until 9:30 p.m. The assistant provides maps and schedules and is available to answer questions about transit routes.


Share The Ride NC

Share The Ride NC provides transportation resources for UNC Asheville students, including Carpool, Transit, Telework, and Vanpool for local and regional transportation.

Visit the Share the Ride website to find commute partners anywhere in North Carolina! Using your home and work or school addresses, you will be matched to nearby commuters with similar schedules. Your home address will never appear on match lists. When you receive your list of matches, you may choose who to contact. There are no obligations or requirements.


North Carolina Intercity Bus Service

The N.C. Department of Transportation provides intercity bus connections between urban and rural communities throughout North Carolina. NCDOT provides 11 routes that offer daily service and connections to a larger national intercity bus network.​

Asheville Regional Airport

The Asheville Regional Airport is located approximately 20-30 min from UNC Asheville’s Campus in Fletcher, NC. The airport is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It has several amenities, including free wi-fi and food/beverage services. Allegiant, Delta, United, JetBlue, and American (U.S. Airways) all fly to and from AVL.
