Parking Permit Registration
Parking permits are required to park on campus and help ensure parking spaces are available for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Review permit options, rates, and instructions for registering your vehicle.
Parking Updates To Register a Vehicle, You will Need the Following Information:
- Vehicle year
- Vehicle make/model (e.g., Subaru WRX)
- Vehicle color
- License plate number and state
- Vehicle owner information (name, street address, and phone number
Temporary Permits
Vehicle in the shop? Driving another car because of bad weather? Log in to your driver portal and transfer your active permit temporarily to another vehicle. The only requirement is that you have already purchased a valid, full-year permit.
Student Parking Permits
All students (degree and non-degree seeking) are eligible and must purchase a parking permit to park on UNC Asheville’s campus.

Student Permit Types
Student permits are categorized into three types and allow for parking in corresponding labeled lots.

From 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, when classes are in session, all student permit holders must park in their respective lots listed above. From 5 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Friday, on weekends, or when class is not in session (observed holidays and breaks) valid student permit holders may park in any Faculty & Staff, Non-Resident, or All Permit lots.
Student Permits
Parking permits for students registered for summer classes can be purchased at a reduced fee of $45. Students who have already purchased a permit for the academic year do not need to purchase a permit for summer classes.
Faculty and Staff Parking Permits
All UNC Asheville employees who bring a vehicle to campus must register for a permit each academic year. Faculty and Staff may park in any Faculty/Staff, Non-Resident, or All Permit lots.

Payment Options
Faculty and staff may pay the full permit cost by credit card or enroll in payroll deduction. Payroll deduction will automatically withhold a prorated portion of the full permit cost from your paycheck each pay period. For full-time employees, this is 1/12 of the permit price from each monthly paycheck issued by the University and 1/26 for those receiving biweekly paychecks. Once enrolled, payroll deductions continue until the employee requests that they be terminated, regardless of whether or not you purchase or register for a new permit. Additional permits, daily, weekly, and motorcycle permits cannot be added to the payroll deduction system and must be paid for online.
Retirees
UNC Asheville Retirees are lifetime members of the University community and are entitled to one free parking permit to park in any F/S, Non-Resident, or All Permit lots. To set up your Retiree account, please email a copy of your Retiree RockyCard to parking@unca.edu. If you do not have one, please visit the RockyCard Office.
Visitor Parking
To ensure the safety and security of the campus community, all visitors must have a permit to park on UNC Asheville’s campus. University-affiliated individuals (faculty, staff, and students) are prohibited from utilizing visitor permits.

Visitor Parking Locations
- Monday – Friday from 6 a.m.-5 p.m.: Permitted visitors may park in Visitor, Non-Resident, or All Permit lots
- Monday – Friday from 5 p.m.-6 a.m., weekends, breaks, and observed holidays: Permitted visitors may park in Visitor, Non-Resident, Faculty/Staff, or All Permit lots.
Local Community Member Parking Permits Vendors
Local community members should contact the Parking & Transportation Services team at 828.251.6691 or parking@unca.edu to purchase a parking permit.
2025-2025 Community Member Permit Cost: $220 (valid August 8, 2025 – July 31, 2026).
Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
In order to utilize designated Electric Vehicle Charging Stations, you must purchase a supplemental EV Charging Station Access permit, in addition to your primary parking permit. Funds collected from these permits help sustain those existing charging stations as well as fund opportunities to create future potential charging and sustainable parking solutions on campus

There are 8 level 2 charging stations on campus:
- 2 in P10
- 2 in P12
- 4 in P19
Temporary Employees, Volunteers, and Student Employees
- Temporary Employees: Compensated interns and temporary employees must purchase permits to park on campus.
- Volunteers: Officially recognized University volunteers may obtain one free parking permit. A current volunteer appointment must be on file with UNC Asheville Human Resources for eligibility.
- Student Employees: Enrolled students who are also University employees are not entitled to Faculty/ Staff permits and must park in the lot for which their student permit is valid. Student interns who are not affiliated with UNC Asheville may be eligible for a Staff permit, but will need to seek approval from Parking and Transportation Services (parking@unca.edu).
University departments are not permitted to purchase parking permits for anyone being compensated by UNC Asheville. This includes paid interns, adjuncts, or visiting professors.
OLLI: Osher Lifelong Learning Institute
Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) members and frequent guests of the Reuter Center must display a parking permit. Please visit the OLLI Parking Webpage or contact OLLI at olli@unca.edu for more information.
Vendors and Contractors
Vendor and Contractor permits are available for issue to on-contract individuals who have repeat on-campus business where a standard visitor permit will not suffice. These permits require prior approval for issuance by a vendor’s UNC Asheville point of contact. The person to whom the permit is registered claims responsibility for all parking violations issued to their permit.
