Student employment with the Student Engagement team offers more than just a campus job—it’s an opportunity to grow as a leader and make a meaningful impact on the student experience at UNC Asheville. Through these roles, students develop valuable skills in leadership, communication, collaboration, and event planning while helping create programs and initiatives that build community on campus.
Whether supporting campus events, welcoming new students, or helping connect peers with opportunities to get involved, Student Engagement team members play an important role in shaping a vibrant campus community.
Community Coordinators
Community Coordinators
Community Coordinators are student leaders who create student engagement and learning opportunities while strengthening connections both within UNC Asheville and between the University and the broader community.
Duties include:
- Regular office hours and associated administrative duties
- Volunteer recruitment and support
- Program and event planning, support, and marketing
Community Coorinators will suppor the planning and execution of Student Enagement Signature events and initiatives including: days of service, Food Equity Initiative, campus blood drives, Community Engaged Scholars, first-generation (First Gen Friday and First-Gen Celebration Day, and financial literacy efforts), transfer (Transfer Involvement Club, Transfer Celebration Week, Tau Sigma, and First-Gen Graduation Celebration), and veteran student services (Veteran’s Center for Excellence, Rally Point UNCA, and Veteran graduation celebration).
Orientation Assistants
Orientation Assistants
Orientation Assistants (OA) are student leaders who help welcome and transition new students to UNC Asheville. OAs serve as peer leaders, mentors, and role models who help new students transition to UNC Asheville by providing guidance, information, and support.
Duties include:
- Lead small groups of new students during orientation sessions<
- Provide accurate information about campus resources, academic expectations, and student life
- Serve as a positive role model and representative of the institution
- Answer questions and address concerns from new students and families
- Promote inclusion, engagement, and community building among participants.
