Prevention and Education Programs

The Title IX Coordinator offers a variety of programs that can be tailored to the needs of a specific group or student organization.  You can schedule a session specifically for your student group by contacting the Title IX Coordinator at titleix@unca.edu or 828.232.5658.

Creating a Culture of Sexual Respect (Incoming and Transferring Students)

As part of EmBark Orientation, all incoming first-year and transferring students are required to participate in a two-part in-person, interactive program with the Title IX Coordinator. Creating a Culture of Respect emphasizes how the University promotes an inclusive and respectful community. It introduces students to strategies on how to look out for themselves and others, such as through prosocial bystander intervention and risk reduction strategies. Creating a Culture of Sexual Respect focuses specifically on the prevention of sexual misconduct, including sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking. Students participate in scenario-based discussions to discuss consent and sexual respect and learn about UNC Asheville’s response to sexual misconduct. Students are also introduced to the University’s policies and procedures that apply to sexual misconduct and harassment and discrimination.

The Title IX Coordinator can work with a group to develop a specific program that addresses a concern related to gender equity. Topics include:
